Opera trainees’ cognitive functioning is associated with physiological stress during performance

چکیده
In an opera performance, singers must perform difficult musical repertoire at a high level while dealing with the stress of standing before large audience. Previous literature suggests that individuals better cognitive functions experience less stress. During music performance such functions, especially attention, memory, and executive function, are in demand, suggesting may play role performance. This study used physiological measures to examine this phenomenon Cardiac activity data were collected from 24 trainees during resting-state period real-life Heart-rate variability (HRV) was as indicator stress, higher HRV indicates lower Standardized neuropsychological tests measure attention (IVA-2), memory (CVLT-3, WMS-IV), function (Trail Making Test). Results showed function- state-specific relationships between function: resting state had positive correlation function. These results suggest greater is related The findings provide initial evidence for relationship trainees.

Serum phospholipid docosahexaenonic acid is associated with cognitive functioning during middle adulthood.
Existing evidence links greater dietary intake of fish and (n-3) PUFA to better early brain development and lowered risk of cognitive disorders in late life. The mechanisms for these associations remain unclear and may be related to specific (n-3) fatty acids and may concern cognitive function generally rather than only early brain development and age-related cognitive dysfunction. In this inve...
متن کاملStress-induced cortisol is associated with generation of non-negative interpretations during cognitive reappraisal
BACKGROUND Enhanced processing of emotional stimuli after stress exposure is reported to be associated with stress-induced cortisol. Because enhanced emotional information processing could make cognitive emotion regulation more difficult, it was hypothesized that stress-induced cortisol would be associated with non-negative interpretation generation associated with the cognitive reappraisal pro...
متن کاملHypertension Severity Is Associated With Impaired Cognitive Performance
BACKGROUND Most evidence of target-organ damage in hypertension (HTN) is related to the kidneys and heart. Cerebrovascular and cognitive impairment are less well studied. Therefore, this study analyzed changes in cognitive function in patients with different stages of hypertension compared to nonhypertensive controls. METHODS AND RESULTS In a cross-sectional study, 221 (71 normotensive and 15...
متن کاملHigh-normal blood pressure is associated with poor cognitive performance.
While the relation between systolic blood pressure (SBP) and vascular events is linear down to the high-normal range, the relation between SBP and cognition is less clear. We cross-sectionally assessed the relation between SBP and cognition in a cohort extending from mid- to late-life. From a total of 2200 community-dwelling individuals we recruited 377 aged 44 to 82 years (median: 64 years, 17...
متن کاملHippocampal activation during a cognitive task is associated with subsequent neuroendocrine and cognitive responses to psychological stress.
Increased activation of the hypothalamus pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis, marked by increased secretion of cortisol, is a biological marker of psychological stress. It is well established that the hippocampus plays an important role in the regulation of HPA axis activity. The relationship between cortisol (stress-related elevation or exogenous administration) and the hippocampal-related cognitive ...
